On Saturday 18th June, Choice FM are holding a donation drive in order to find a match for 3 year old Kye.

Kye is in desperate need of a donor and so Choice FM is asking for your help!

Kye has just celebrated his 3rd birthday on 18 May but his smiles hide his desperate fight for life after suffering a relapse of the Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) he was diagnosed with before his 2nd birthday in 2010. He urgently needs a Super Hero.

Choice FM is hosting a special Donation to try and find a superhero for Kye and all others desperately seeking a donor.

There is a critical shortage of Black, Asian and Mixed Race bone marrow, blood and organ donors.

Come down to the Choice FM studios on Saturday 18th June and you could help save a life. We’re recruiting blood and bone marrow donors for the ACLT, all you need to do is provide a saliva sample – it really is that easy!

So if you’re aged between 17 and 49 (18 for bone marrow donors) and weigh over 7 stone (44 kgs) then we need you! For more information about the ACLT check out www.aclt.org

Croydon Police Open Day – Sunday 3 July 11am-4pm
Ever wanted to know the secrets behind CSI, wondered what life is like behind bars or how dogs and horses are trained to police the streets of London?

Well now you can, as Croydon Police are holding an Open Day at Croydon Police station (71 Park Lane, CR9 1BP) on Sunday 3 July 2011 between 11:00 and 16:00 – last entry for visitors will be at 15:30.

Everybody is welcome and the day will give residents and visitors to Croydon the chance to get a rare behind the scenes glimpse at what goes on inside a police station and see some of the specialist unit, such as Horses, Dogs, Firearms officers and forensics officers that work within the Metropolitan Police and in Croydon.

Highlights for the day will include (subject to operational demand):

    • Tours of the custody cells
    • Mounted police and police dogs
    • Fire brigade car-wreck rescue
    • CO19 firearms officer demos
    • Officer safety training and demos
    • Rope rescue demos
    • and much, much more…

Borough Commander Chief Superintendent Adrian Roberts said;
“Last year’s Open Day was a fantastic success, and we saw over 2,000 people come and visit us and we hope to better those numbers this year.

“The feedback from last year’s event was really positive and there was really something for everyone young and old. It’s not often we open our doors in this way, but I think this kind of event is vital in building up openness, trust and confidence in our communities.

“We want the people of Croydon to come and look around, speak to me and my officers, tell us what they’re thinking and to have a really fun and enjoyable day.”
